Filming Blog

My personal journey with this music video assignment has been nothing short of a great experience. My group and I were able to come together and brainstorm different ideas to incorporate in our filming. We were able to decide the various costumes, props, and locations that we will be using in the filming. This process made us do extensive research on R&B videos and how they are composed. After doing so, it allowed us to design our filming plan much easier. Once we had the plan set in stone, we talked through it to see if it would make sense. Once we realized it would work, we came together to figure out what day would be most suitable to record. We all agreed that it would be much easier if we were able to start filming before the Thanksgiving Break started. We planned to do our filming Monday at the beach. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way.
We couldn't film that Monday because a member of our group wasn't in attendance that day. In addition, no one was able to check out a camera before Monday. This was a minor setback for us, due to us planning this in advance. However, we didn't think of the other problems that would come with filming Monday. After this, we decided to just record after Thanksgiving Break. This would give us less time to film altogether. Also, if we were to mess up our initial film, it would give us little time to film again. Despite this, we are all optimistic about making a great music video. We have a well detailed outline on how the video will play out. This makes filming much easier with less hassle. \
In our filming, we plan to go to the beach. This setting is used in various R&B videos. It gives a sense of tranquility which can help the audience receive the message more clear. It'll also be a setting where the two actors will be able to act their parts effectively. In addition, we are also going to a furniture store. By going here, we are able to show a domestic scene that the audience can relate to. This also makes the video more intimate and exciting to watch. After we are able to film at these two settings, our editing will be simple. We will add the necessary effects and editing to make the video more concrete. It will make it much more inviting to watch.

Filming Blog

Since our video is a love song we are going to start off at the beach with our male actor walking on the beach near the rocks so we can get the water crashing on the rocks. For this scene, we wanted to do a medium close up so we can show the beach but also see the actor's facial expression as he is singing. The scene at the beach is going to be approximately 15-20 seconds. In the next scene, we are going to move to the furniture store this scene our this scene because we need a bed and kitchen set up. In this scene, our male actor and female actor will be "sleeping" in the bed then our male actor will sneak out of the bed and go, cook in the kitchen for his girlfriend. After he is done cooking the meal he will bring it to the bedroom where he will wake up our female actor and give her breakfast. This scene is going to be over the shoulder shot to show the kitchen set up. during this scene, our female actor is going to pick up our male actors' phone and see something that is going to make them get in an argument. This scene is most likely going to be a point of view scene that will switch between both actors. The next scene is going to show our female actor storm away this is going to be an eye-level camera angle. The last scene is going to show our male actor grab our female actor and pull her in while singing. This is going to be a 2 person shot. The scene is going to fade out.

Planning Blog
Location- Our male RnB actor will be on the beach walking around while having flashbacks of his lover. We also plan to shoot at the mattress store, in the kitchen area. We want a scene where our male actor is cooking for his lover. Additionally we plan to use the beds in the mattress store. We have a big idea for the use of the mattress store. Of course we will need the approval of the managers.

Health and Safety- We plan to make sure a lifeguard is on duty while we’re shooting at the beach, in case anything occurs. Also on the way to the beach and mattress store, we will be wearing our seat belts. We take safety very seriously. In addition to these safety precautions, we will have a buddy system. So if anyone needs to walk off during our filming process someone will be with them. You could never be too safe.

Props- In our music video we don’t really incorporate that many props. Since the traditional R&B videos doesn’t, but we will be using a bed from the mattress store. Also the kitchen appliances in the mattress store. We want the props to give the video a home feel. The mattress store props will make the R&b singer seem as if he’s home, in his own kitchen.

Costumes- Since traditionally R&b male singers wear tights shirts, to be seductive our male actress will to. We’re thinking a white tight tee. We aren’t  completely sure what color yet. The female most likely will be dressed girly, maybe wearing a dress or skirt.

Schedule
On 11/18-11/20 we will be doing our storyboard and planning . On 11/22 we would like to start filming. We want a couple of days to film.  So that during Thanksgiving break we’re stress free. The week of Thanksgiving break we want to film that Tuesday 11/26.

Intro Convention/Research Blog

After a long process of completing our commercial, we are transitioning in completing a music video. Our group went through a lot of obstacles while completing our commercial, which set us back a lot. However, it allowed us to work together efficiently and effectively. We were able to get a hands on experience on Pinnacle Studios and learn how to use it. This ultimately helps us a lot because we will be editing our music video on there as well. I believe our experience with the music video will be much more smoother. We have more experience now and will be able to know what to do and what not to do.
The song that we chose to do is called Love Don't Change by Jeremih. We chose to do this song because it's a throwback that we enjoy. It's a very passionate song that professes love about a female. In addition, it's a song that we would be able to do easily. We believe this because it's a man singing about a girl and there's one male in our group. There's also a variety of females in our group so we'll be able to do this song with ease. This keeps everything much more simple.
The genre of the song is R&B. In a R&B song, it has a variety of topics. This can range from love, heartbreak, or etc. This songs are usually very emotion led and can be very intimate. This helps gravitate people to it and want to listen more. I believe this will be able to be replicated in our music video effectively. Which will ultimately give us the best grade possible.

C- R&B male singers usually wear tight shirts and jeans. They try to appeal to the female fans, and they often want to be seen as seductive. Tight shirts usually bring out they’re muscle fatigue, which most of them have.

L-In R&B videos they usually use dim lights inside of a small room, where they usually look through a window. This helps the audience feel the emotions he’s going through and it creates a sense of sadness. Sometimes they use natural lights to make the send me seem more realistic.

A- The actors in the RnB categories mostly consist of a lead male and female roles. In most of the RnB videos I seen the actors are usually in a relationship, getting out of one, or coming together.

M- In RnB videos the females wear make-up. I noticed that in the videos when the camera zooms in on the female you could see her make-up. So the use of make-up is to make the female more appealing in the video.

P- RnB music videos usually barely incorporate props. Due to the fact that most of the video focuses on the actors unless the Prop is what causes conflict between the actors.

S- In most RnB videos the setting takes place in a room with a back ground, or in a house. Some videos take place outside which will most likely be in the rain.

Shots- for the shots we want to use a extreme close up, to show the actors expression and his emotions. We’re also going to use a two-shot because we realized in lots of love song music videos it shows the boy and the girl. Lastly, we’re going to use a point of view shot because it symbolizes what the main character sees; usually they show how the guy sees the girl walking or laughing in slow motion.

Angles- We want to use the eye level angle because in a lot of music videos the actor is looking up while singing. We’re also going to use a Dutch because we want to make the sense more

Editing Process

As me and my group members attempted to edit our commercial on Tuesday, we realized that the software to edit it with wasn't on the computer. This was a major set back and we couldn't edit that day. What we ended up doing was uploading our files on the computer and putting them in a folder. We were able to watch the videos we took and see what we wanted to use. We also planned to edit our commercial Wednesday. Two of the people in our group planned to come to class the next day to finish.
Once Wednesday came, the two members that were supposed to edit the commercial had a field trip to go to. I wasn't able to edit because I didn't have study hall that particular day. Due to this, we weren't able to edit our commercial and had to wait until Friday. As I was home, I went over the videos again and tried to see what others parts would we add or take out. Being able to not edit our commercial during that length of time we tough. We hoped that Friday would work out.
As we went to class Friday in hopes to edit, our teacher wasn't there. We pulled up a computer and didn't see our folder with our videos on there. The only way to retrieve those videos would be from the SD card we took it off of. However, the room which had the SD card was locked. I tried to ask the substitute to call security but she wouldn't let me. Unfortunately, we weren't able to edit our videos yet.
